Dr. Toby Campbell is a Professor of Medicine and the Chief of the University of Wisconsin’s Palliative Care Program. He is also the Ellen and Peter O. Johnson Chair in Palliative Care. For eight years, he led the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program, developed the WeTALK and PalliTALK communication workshops, and expanded the clinical programs at UW. He has also won programmatic awards from the American Hospital Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Campbell has received several honors, including the Sojourns Scholar Leadership Award and Young Investigator Awards from ASCO and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. He has also received awards for his humanistic patient care from the University of Virginia, Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin. As a thoracic medical oncologist, his clinical practice focuses on lung cancer and palliative care. His research interests include communication education and innovating the approach to shared decision-making conversations.
